The Somerset Celebration of Literature Festival is the leading children's literature festival within Australia. This year we celebrated our twenty fifth chapter. In recent years the Festival has grown with more children being provided opportunities to visit the Festival each year. Both local and regional communities are embracing the Festival.
The Festival is in a development phase and the objectives are to expand the community engagement on the Gold Coast and beyond. To provide a series of literary activities throughout the year which culminates in the showcase event, the three-day Festival. By providing activities throughout the year, it keeps an awareness of the brand at all times.
Strategic partnerships are being nurtured that will complement the brand and allow the programme to expand in various other forms of literature. There is a specific focus on the Gold Coast to leave a legacy and to showcase the Gold Coast as a cultural hub. We believe a collaborative approach allows for a smoother transition into the wider community as well as providing greater opportunities for funding possibilities.
As such, we have taken steps over the past two years to look at the redevelopment of the Festival. We’ve engaged a cultural advisor to guide us through this process to ensure that a redevelopment would be viable and the best way moving forward, to make this happen.
Throughout the past year, we undertook stakeholder engagement to get a sense of what the festival has been, what it is now and where we would like it to be in the future. We engaged branding strategist, Rob Bare from Guerilla who has lead us through this process. The key takeaways have been we were bold in our past, we are respected at present and we want to be inspiring into the future.
We are thrilled with the outcome of our Branding Strategy and are pleased to confirm our new brand – Somerset Storyfest. As the newly appointed, CEO, I am personally excited by the challenge ahead and filled with enthusiasm for the possibilities now available. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of our sponsors who join with us in making a difference in the literature world not only with us but with varied other entities that provide growth and opportunities of literature throughout Australia.
