The training squads at the Academy are designed to test swimmers’ ability and promote both technique and speed development. Swimmers are introduced to a variety of training techniques to increase their ability.
There are five broad squad levels based on the training ability of the swimmer. Current squads’ training times can be found in the Somerset Swimming Academy Brochure available at the pool reception. Brief descriptions of the squad levels are outlined below.
Coaching squad preparation level. Continuing stroke correction, set development and race skills added. Training kit required. Club Membership compulsory.
Recommended two to three sessions per week (minimum two)
Squad for junior competitive swimmers with improving fitness, training skills and racing strategies. Swim Club membership required.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 4.15pm to 5.45pm
Thursday and Friday: 5.30am to 7.00am
Saturday: 8.00am to 9.30am
Recommended three to five sessions per week (minimum three)
Swimmers who are looking to compete at State level and move towards qualifying for the National Age Championships. Swim Club membership required.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 5.30am to 7.15am
Saturday: 6.30am to 8.30am
Monday to Friday: 4.00pm to 6.00pm
Recommended four to seven sessions per week (minimum four)
Swimmers looking to compete at National Age and National Open Championships.
Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 5.30am to 7.15am
Thursday: 5.30am to 7.15am - Gym Only
Saturday: 6.30am to 8.30am
Monday to Thursday: 4.00pm to 6.00pm
