Ashley Callus OAM

Ashley is a triple Olympian and recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). Ashley has also represented Australia at three Commonwealth Games and three World Championships. Ashley is a Gold Level Coach and is responsible for the Academy’s National and High Performance Squads.

Ashley won a gold medal in a world record time at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games alongside Michael Klim, Ian Thorpe and Chris Fydler in the Men’s 4 x 100 metre relay.

Further highlights include a gold medal in the 100 metre Freestyle at the 2002 FINA World Short Course in Moscow, a world championship, two Commonwealth and one Pan Pacific gold medal as a member of the Men’s 4 x 100 metre Freestyle Relay team and two gold and three silver medals at three Commonwealth Games.

Greg Schulte

Greg joined Somerset in October of 2010 after returning to Australia from many years spent in Guam in the South West Pacific.

During his years on Guam he filled the role of club swimming coach, gaining valuable experience managing and coaching international swimming representatives to a range of international competitions in the Pacific, USA and Asia, culminating in the FINA World Swimming Championships held in Shanghai in 2011. He holds an ASCTA Bronze level coaching accreditation.

Greg has also gained valuable experience and credentials over the years as a Swimming Technical Official, holding both Referee and Starter accreditation with Swimming Australia in addition to completing several FINA International Officiating certificates during his time on Guam.

Greg now coaches the Junior Intermediate groups, Junior Development swimmers, Somerset School classes, Adult Masters and Adult Fitness classes.

Cheryl Baty

Coach Cheryl has been at Somerset for a number of years and is a highly skilled and accomplished coaching ‘technician’. Having worked with the high performance programme for a number of years at Somerset and being heavily involved with all squad levels, Cheryl is now in charge of the Silver Squad and relishing her new role.

Cheryl’s enthusiasm and motivation for skill progression and swimmer development will help guide Somerset’s swimmers to the next level.

Chris Urqhart

Chris is a highly experienced and qualified coach who brings a wealth of knowledge and a coaching philosophy to help and assist our swimmers to be the best they can at Somerset.

Chris has coached both Ashely Callus and Alicia Coutes to Australian National Open Teams and has also been selected as a coach on these teams, including the World Short Course Championships in Shanghai (2006) and the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii (2005).

Chris works with the State Squad, as well as assisting other coaches and squads with their programmes each week.
