Leadership at Somerset Institute is grounded in curiosity, collaboration and an openness to perspectives beyond our own.

Guided by experienced educational leadership, the Institute brings together research, relationships and global thinking to create opportunities for students and staff to learn, grow and contribute beyond their immediate context.

Tim Barrett is the Director of the Somerset Institute whose work focuses on leading the three pillars of research, collaboration, and leadership to strengthen learning and the way people work together.

Tim brings extensive educational and executive leadership experience, including a decade leading the Institute of Learning at St Andrew’s Anglican College. He is a regular presenter at national and international education forums, with his work also featured by the Australian Council for Educational Research, The Educator and educational podcasts.

Cultural intelligence (CQ) and global leadership are particular areas of Tim’s work. In 2023, he was named a Lifetime Member of the Society of CQ Fellows. His work spans international partnerships, CQ assessment and training, and leadership development that helps people understand themselves, work effectively with others and lead across cultures and contexts.

Tim holds degrees in Physical Education and Theology, is a Master Facilitator for Global TeamLEAD and has further qualifications in governance, CQ, design thinking facilitation, and coaching.
