I am Lauren Chan, a current Year 10 student, and for My Personal Project, I have chosen to produce two contrasting multi-layered wood artworks which depict the impact of climate change on our planet.
Through this Project, I aim to create awareness for the progressively deteriorating condition of our planet and to motivate more people to aid in the fight against climate change.
I have decided that the best way to achieve this goal is to create one artwork which displays the world prior to climate change and another which represents how the effects of climate change could devastate the world in the future. In order to produce these artworks, I laser-cut different pieces of wood and layered them atop each other. I chose to create this type of artwork due to my interest in and enjoyment of laser-cutting, which is a skill I have learnt in Design class.
Thus far, I have designed, laser-cut, stained, finished and assembled the two artworks. The final step I need to complete before the Project is finished is to line the artworks with LED lights to enhance their visual appeal and, seeing as I will use coloured lights specifically suited to the circumstance portrayed in each artwork, I hope to further promote my message. Whilst creating these artworks, I have had to undertake many different processes and so, I have learnt several new skills. For example, I have learnt the new skill of independently designing an artwork on an application I had never used before, Procreate. As well as this, I have gained knowledge on how to stain and finish wood.
This entire project has been very enjoyable, providing me with an entertaining and creative outlet. It has, also, been extremely rewarding as, now that I have almost completed the product, I am able to see how each individual step has come together to form the artworks which I had envisioned when I first started this project.
