Student Leadership

Our student leadership programme at all year levels is based on the premise of servant leadership. We recognise that all students have an opportunity to lead through their daily actions and we in turn have a commitment to developing leadership skills.

We proactively take the opportunity to develop leadership skills through programmes in different year levels, that will serve our students well both in their school years and beyond. Servant leadership is at the heart of our approach to student leadership. Students across the College are provided opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers and staff to strengthen their understanding of servant leadership.

As part of the International Baccalaureate our students learn the characteristics of the learner profile from their commencement in Junior School through to Year 12.  The learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that encourage leadership skills and go beyond academic success. The profile aims to develop learners who are inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.

Peer mentoring is a key feature of our approach to grow leadership opportunities and support the needs of fellow students. In the Junior School, students engage with a leadership programme that enables them to identify traits of highly effective leaders. In Year 6, students, in consultation with their Year 9 counterparts, are immersed in the Peer Support Programme to begin the transition into the Senior School. In the Senior School, students consult with their peers in a myriad of ways, culminating in Year 11, where our Dare to Lead Programme enables students to reflect upon their leadership and impact of their leadership will have on the College in their Senior Year.

We believe that all students have the capacity to lead, through their actions and being a positive role model to others. Through our committees, clubs, sport and cultural activities, there are many opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills, as well as through formal leadership positions at a whole College level in both the Junior School and Senior School. These positions include School Captains, School Vice Captains, Sports Captains, Performing Arts Captains, House Captains and in the Senior School, Academic Captains, Chapel Sacristans and Year 7 Captains.
