It was with great excitement that we opened the classroom door on Monday to find three new chicks and an incubator with 11 more eggs. What a wonderful experience to witness these eggs hatching.
We all needed to live the Learner Profile and be extra caring inquirers.
We will be sad to say good bye to our new friends on Thursday as they make their way to a farm to roam free.
Essentially, a pianola will look like an ordinary piano from the outside, but on the inside are many complex mechanisms which use perforated paper rolls to play virtually any song, provided you have the roll for it.
Having a passion for playing piano and repairing old things at home, the goal of my Project is to successfully restore my pianola (or player piano as it’s called in the United States) dated 1924, restoring both the internal components and the exterior woodwork in the progress. The pianola was bought by me for $50 from an old lady who was going into a retirement home. It had seen better days and was extremely battered both on the inside and the outside. However, now that I am highly involved in its restoration almost every day, it is starting to look like new! Most recently, I am in the final stages of lacquering the wood and the pianola is starting to shine.
This project has allowed me to become more familiar with the piano, and woodwork; which might come in handy in the future.
Overall, I am highly enjoying my Personal Project as I gain further knowledge into my chosen topic. I very much look forward to continuing my progress thus far, and I look forward towards what’s to come.
Well done to Harry considering he is only Under 11 and can also compete in this age group next year.
Use less energy, start switching off those lights because the damaging affects it has on our environment is overwhelming.
Use less water and Food waste. Water is essential to our earth and we take it for granted. Water shortages are increasing all over our country. Plastic is becoming more of an issue as well. Try using more wooden appliances and find the nearest bin to throw away unwanted substances on our environment.
Dear Parent,
This year the free school vaccine programme for Year 7 students will be providing two vaccines.
1. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine
HPV is a very common infectious disease and most children (more than 80 per cent) will have a HPV infection at some time in their lives. Most HPV infections do not cause any symptoms and people usually do not know they have the infection.
However, in around 10 to 20 per cent of people, the virus persists in the body and in later life is an important cause of a range of cancers and other conditions. As well as causing many genital cancers, the virus is a major cause of mouth and throat cancers which are on the increase in recent years. It can also cause tumours in the air passages to the lungs.
Both boys and girls benefit from this vaccine, with some cancers being more common in males and others in females. One third of all HPV related cancers occur in boys.
Children will receive two doses of this vaccine during the year.
2. Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough) Vaccine (dTpa)
Pertussis (whooping cough) is a highly contagious respiratory disease resulting in a severe cough that may last for months. Infection in adolescents is common. Complications include pneumonia, coma, brain damage and long-term lung damage.
Vaccines given against pertussis in childhood do not provide lifelong protection. Infected persons can pass disease on to vulnerable others including babies and the elderly. In order for your child to be protected you must complete the on-line consent form by clicking here.
