We started our Year 9 journey with great anticipation and excitement. We introduced ourselves to our new students, and new teachers, and we went through the process of relearning where all of our classrooms were. Throughout the term, we got to see students participate in the Swimming Carnival, take the stage at the House Plays Festival and chase the finish line at the Cross-Country Carnival, where everyone brought their house spirit and gave it their all.

We completed our last NAPLAN tests in week 7 and fought through many jam-packed assessment weeks, which were all topped off with an untimely visit from Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Schools were shut down as immense rain and wind belted down on us over the four-day period, forcing many of us to stay home and leaving many without power.

In week 9, we ventured off to Lake Cooby for the highly anticipated Year 9 Camp. We adventured into the wilderness, persevered through tough challenges, and helped build each other up. It was a fun, rewarding and empowering experience for everyone, where we learnt lots about not only other people, but also about ourselves. When we arrived back at the College, we were greeted by our parents, as we shared moments of gratitude and commitment in our final activity of the Returning Ceremony.

To wrap up the term, we were lucky enough to be able to be involved in the Somerset StoryFest. We were able to hear from many different authors and illustrators about their journey into the literary world. We roamed the school with Dippin’ Dots and snow cones, making sure to make the most out of our 15 minute breaks.

Altogether, this term has been a blast. We have had so many impactful opportunities, and many fun events, and, even though we did have a few assessment-heavy weeks, it was all okay because Cyclone Alfred came to save the day by letting us have a 5-day weekend.
