Year 7 students held a bake sale on Wednesday in Week 10, to raise money for the Cancer Council Foundation. We had to be very organised and bake lots of treats in the weeks leading up to the event.

This year Bond University has again kindly donated prizes to the Year 9 and 10 Business Venture Team who raises the most money for their chosen charity at the Somerset Celebration of Entrepreneurship. In 2018, the team which earns the most profit for their chosen charity will receive a $400 cash prize.
In 2017, Somerset held its first ever Celebration of Entrepreneurship, enlightening students in entrepreneurial practices, encouraging problem solving and teaching communication skills required to gain full time work. During the festival, I was asked by many students, teachers and parents ‘why’ are we having a festival of entrepreneurship at the College?
The Hinterland District Netball Association Club Carnival was held on Sunday 17 June at Mudgeeraba. Not even a chilly three degrees could dampen the spirits of the Somerset Year 7 girls entering their first Netball carnival for the year.
Somerset Alumni of 2016, Nachiket Shah came to speak to our Year 11 and 12 Business and Economics students in Week 9, about his life since leaving Somerset. Nachi is currently studying Economics and Data Science at the University of California, Berkeley, and had lots of fantastic information to share about his experiences in San Francisco.
Dance is a skill-based athletic art form. Students have been working on developing physiological skills alongside their artistic skills for a number of weeks in a strength and conditioning class for performing athletes.
The Sustainable Spartans have been hard at work paving a sustainable pathway for the Somerset College community to follow. As a committee, we have created proposals, raised awareness, and most importantly, we have taken real action to bring us a step closer to a sustainable future for the College.
Sixteen aspiring economists participated in a range of interactive presentations and activities provided by Griffith University Teaching Staff and also enjoyed a taste of university campus life. The students are to be commended for their mature conduct and genuine participation in the programme.
This week we take part in the APS Winter Season Finals Day and continue the 2018 Track and Field Season daily. Please check the fixture on Schoolbox carefully, as 700 of 800 Senior School students will travel.
Somerset College students are getting a taste of how the 1.4 billion people around the world living in extreme poverty survive as they try to live on just $2.00 a day. Thousands of young Australians will give up their daily treats to live on $2.00 a day for five days as part of Live Below the Line, a youth run poverty alleviation campaign.
