During the recent school holidays, the Under 11 Football Boys travelled to Cairns to participate in Far North Queensland Youth Football Cup. The Tour took place from Monday April 10 to Saturday April 15.

The is the second tour Somerset College footballers have made to Cairns and this year's goal was to improve performance from the previous year.

In preparation for the tour, we conducted several workshops with Harry McMaster and Annette Eastwood. These workshops have resulted in the team remaining strong and healthy during the whole week!

The team departed from the Gold Coast early on a Monday morning bound for Cairns. After arriving, we considered the team's nutrition and bought healthy snacks and drinks for optimal sport performance. In the afternoon we scheduled team training.

On day two, all the students  participated in the football camp and met former professional football players.

On day three, four and five we played in the football tournament, a total of eight matches over the three days. The Tournament was a great experience to play against clubs and academies from other states and countries (New Zealand).

Thank you to Max Bowden, Oliver Ng, Paxton Stewart, Connor Millar-Martin, Harper Loon, Zhander Griffiths, Hugo Hasselle, Edward Hassett, Andrew Blatchford, and Benedict Thompson who have taken part in the second Somerset Football Tour.

Thank you to our Coach Jonathon Pritchard and team manager James Hasselle for being part of our coaching staff.

The tour was a success for all students and parents, hopefully have many more tours to come.

Please keep an eye on the Schoolbox notices for our Football Tours in 2024.
