Music at Somerset College forms an integral part of the day to day lives of the students. Whether they are aspiring singers, instrumentalists or entertainers, there are many ways to participate in making music and developing performance and presentation skills.
Music fosters social interaction, the development of concentration and memory, physical co-ordination, self-discipline and creative thinking. As music pervades everyday life, it is hoped that the musical experiences offered at the College will inspire students to be involved with music after their secondary education whether for leisure, interest or career. Music is a very relevant part of every student's education.
Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent Victor Hugo
The essence and most important aspect of the College programme, that whilst learning new skills and honing existing ones and always looking to do your very best, is to enjoy what you do and then success will surely follow.
Music at Somerset College offers students of all abilities opportunities to participate in group performances in the areas of choral, instrumental and music theatre spanning both the Junior and Senior Schools. By the time a student has completed their education at the College, they would have had the opportunity to:
- Sing in the College’s various choirs
- Be part of a musical production
- Learn a musical instrument
- Participate in the College’s numerous instrumental ensembles
We encourage each student to get involved.
