Canada - Rugby

Somerset College has a reputation as one of the leading rugby playing schools on the Gold Coast. One of the factors assisting in this development has been the participation in an International Rugby Tour. We conduct a biennial rugby tour for our senior players to British Columbia, Canada.

Our first tour was conducted in 2008, with subsequent tours in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Unfortunately, our planned 2020 tour was cancelled due to the coronavirus. In that time, Somerset College has played 39 games, winning 31, drawing 1 and losing only 7. Claiming the impressive scalps of Canada’s leading rugby schools such as Collingwood School, Brentwood College and Shawnigan Lake School along the way. We have been fortunate to develop reciprocal relationships with these Canadian schools who often tour Australia. This gives our players the opportunity to repay the generosity of our Canadian hosts.

Through rugby, our students make lifelong friendships whilst also having the honour of wearing the College colours, bonding with their teammates, representing themself, their College, their family and their country to our Canadian hosts.
